Help with Getting My Reverse Proxy to Forward the Correct IP Address

Community iconc/selfhosted@lemmy.world by
ampersandrew@lemmy.world
13 hours ago EN

Hi, folks! I’ve learned a lot these past 8-9 months in self-hosting, but I’m not sure what’s going on with my reverse proxy setup. At this point, I’m only running Nginx Proxy Manager, Jellyfin, and Komga, separated from my home network via VLANs and firewall rules. My home network is 192.168.1.X and hosted services are on 192.168.10.X. Yet when I look at access logs for Jellyfin or Komga, both are reporting access from 192.168.65.1 when accessed from outside my home network. I don’t have a 65 subnet, so this is strange. The reverse proxy is run on a mini PC at .10.201, and Jellyfin and Komga are hosted on a NAS at .10.202; all of them run via Docker containers.

Have we been running insecure software since the arrival of AI?

Community iconc/linux@lemmy.ml by
trilobite@lemmy.ml
14 hours ago EN

I do about a monthly update of my Debian machines. Today I did the usual monthly update and noticed loads of packages uploading from the “security” branch. I’ve had the impression (just an impression) that more and more packages are being updated from security over the past many months. Trixie has been out for a while now and I would have thought that less and less updates should be coming from security. Has anyone had this sensation and if so has anyone linked this to AI finding more holes in OSS that would have normally been found by human scrutiny? Has there been any official research into this? And if this is true, does it mean that we have been running insecure software all along? Or is there is there a risk that AI start filing patches that actually make it less secure because software maintainers are not being rigorous in verifying who is submitting the patch? AI must be changing the paradigm of software development more than any other area of our lives and I can’t still work out if in a better way or not.

This morning (2026-10-11 07:10:00), I updated to Core 2026.10.1. After the update a few repairs showed up. One was for a Script that has been running for 3 years. Somehow an “Attribute” was inserted in the script, which was not there before the update. I fixed it by deleting the “Attribute”. Then there are three devices which has been in my HA for more than 3 years and it is complaining on “… has area but no name on its own”.

About PyFed

Michael's corner of the threadiverse

PyFed is a personal, single-user instance running PyLova, a soft fork of PieFed. PieFed is a federated link aggregator and discussion platform that connects with Lemmy, Mastodon, and the wider Fediverse through ActivityPub.

Rules

This server is intended to be a safe, civil, family-friendly place for conversation and community. Different opinions and viewpoints are welcome, but thoughtful discussion is expected over provocation, harassment, or personal attacks.

These rules apply to all accounts, posts, comments, communities, media, automated accounts, and other content hosted on this server.

1. Follow United States Law

Do not post, share, host, or promote content that is illegal under applicable United States law.

Illegal content will be removed when discovered and reported to the appropriate authorities when required by law.

2. No NSFW, Sexual Content, Nudity, or Graphic Violence

This is a family-friendly server.

NSFW content is not permitted.

Sexually explicit, pornographic, erotic, fetish, or sexually suggestive content is prohibited.

Nudity is not permitted, including photographic, illustrated, animated, generated, or otherwise depicted nudity. Marking content as NSFW, sensitive, or using a content warning does not make otherwise prohibited material acceptable.

Graphic or gratuitously violent media, gore, depictions of severe injury, or similarly disturbing material are also prohibited.

Content involving the sexual exploitation or sexualization of minors is absolutely prohibited in any form, whether real, simulated, illustrated, animated, generated, or otherwise depicted. Such material shall be removed and reported to the appropriate authorities.

3. No Harassment or Personal Attacks

Do not harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate, or target other people.

Personal attacks, dogpiling, coordinated harassment, block evasion, and encouraging others to harass someone are prohibited.

Disagreement is welcome. Abuse is not.

4. No Hate or Targeted Abuse

Content that attacks, dehumanizes, or advocates discrimination or violence against people based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age is prohibited.

Criticism of ideas, beliefs, organizations, governments, public policies, and public figures is permitted provided it does not cross into prohibited harassment, threats, or targeted abuse.

5. No Threats or Incitement to Violence

Do not make credible threats of violence or encourage, organize, celebrate, or promote violence against individuals or groups.

Content promoting violent organizations or ideologies may also be removed when it presents a safety risk or conflicts with these rules.

6. Respect People’s Privacy

Do not publish private or personally identifying information about another person without permission.

This includes doxxing or publishing information such as private addresses, telephone numbers, personal email addresses, unpublished workplace information, financial information, or other information intended to expose, intimidate, or endanger someone.

7. No Spam, Scams, or Malicious Activity

Spam, phishing, scams, malware, deceptive links, fraudulent activity, and other malicious behavior are prohibited.

Accounts or automated systems primarily intended to flood communities, manipulate engagement, or disrupt conversations may be restricted or removed.

8. Bots, AI, and Automated Accounts

Bots, AI-assisted accounts, automated posting systems, RSS-based accounts, and other forms of automation are permitted.

They must follow all other server rules and must be clearly identified as automated, bot-operated, AI-operated, or AI-assisted when applicable.

Automation does not exempt an account from moderation. The person or organization operating an automated account remains responsible for its behavior and content.

Bots, AI systems, automated accounts, or integrations that create excessive traffic, spam, misleading content, abusive behavior, moderation problems, or other disruption may be restricted, suspended, or permanently removed.

Whether a bot, AI system, automated account, or other automated service is appropriate for this server is determined solely by the server administrator. Such accounts may be limited or removed at the administrator’s sole discretion.

9. No Impersonation or Deceptive Identity

Do not impersonate another person, organization, community, or server in a way that is intended to deceive others.

Parody and satire are permitted when they are reasonably identifiable as such.

10. Respect Copyright and Attribution

Do not knowingly post material that infringes another person’s copyright or other intellectual-property rights.

Quotations, images, articles, and other material created by someone else should be appropriately attributed when applicable.

Valid copyright or infringement notices sent to the contact address for this server will be reviewed and acted upon as appropriate.

11. Respect Community Rules

Individual communities may establish additional rules appropriate to their subject matter.

Users participating in a community are expected to follow both these server-wide rules and the rules established by that community.

Community rules may be more restrictive than these server-wide rules but may not override them.

Moderation and Administrative Authority

This server is privately operated.

The server administrator is the sole arbiter of these rules and has final authority over moderation, federation, account access, communities, and content hosted by this server.

The administrator may remove content, restrict accounts, suspend or permanently ban accounts, close communities, limit features, or take any other reasonable action considered necessary to protect the server, its users, or its operation.

Serious violations may result in immediate suspension or removal without warning.

Attempts to evade moderation actions, including creating additional accounts to circumvent a suspension or ban, are prohibited.

Moderation decisions are made at the sole discretion of the server administrator. Those decisions are final and are not subject to public debate, voting, or negotiation.

Users may report errors or provide additional information regarding a moderation action, but doing so does not create a right to an appeal or require the administrator to reverse or reconsider a decision.

Federation

Federation with another server is voluntary.

This server may limit, silence, suspend, or completely block federation with servers that repeatedly originate spam, harassment, illegal material, malicious activity, coordinated abuse, prohibited NSFW material, or other content that substantially conflicts with these rules.

A server may also be blocked when abusive behavior is systemic, encouraged by its administrators, or its administrators consistently fail to address serious abuse originating from their server.

Federation decisions are made solely by the server administrator and may be changed at any time.

No remote server, community, account, or user has a right to federation with this server.

Public Nature of the Fediverse

The Fediverse is a distributed social network. Content can be transmitted to and stored by independently operated servers outside the control of this server.

Anything posted, uploaded, commented, replied to, reacted to, or otherwise shared through the Fediverse should be treated as potentially public.

Do not post anything you would be unwilling to have seen, copied, or shared with the wider public.

Content may be copied, cached, indexed, archived, quoted, forwarded, downloaded, screenshotted, or otherwise retained by other servers, services, or users.

Privacy or visibility settings may affect how software initially distributes content, but they cannot guarantee that a recipient will not copy, save, or redistribute it.

Direct messages, limited-audience posts, followers-only posts, and similar content should therefore not be treated as secure or confidential communications.

Once content has been transmitted to another server or user, this server may have no ability to retrieve or delete every copy.

Reports and Questions

If you believe content or activity originating from this server violates these rules, applicable law, or your rights, please use the contact information provided on this server.

Good-faith reports and moderation questions are welcome.

Reports are reviewed by the server administrator, who retains final authority over any action taken.
